Great Escape Farms
United States
Приєднався 12 жов 2015
Great Escape Farms is a small family farm located just outside Romney, WV, USA. We have been in business since 2015 and sell unique edible plants, produce UA-cam videos on gardening and homesteading, and are setting up as a Permaculture/regenerative agriculture showcase farm.
Our unique edible plants are propagated and grown on the farm with only a few exceptions. We produce things like Elderberry, Pawpaw, Hardy Kiwi, Persimmon, Honeyberry, and many other items.
We practice regenerative practices as much as possible. Our nursery’s water needs are derived entirely from rainwater harvested from our outbuildings (except in drought).
Most of the videos are plant related and showing how to propagate plants, care for them, and showing garden tours through the years. We also have homesteading videos on how to make certain things, how to fix the many things that break around the homestead and even how to set up your own rainwater harvesting system.

How to Deer Proof Your Garden and Plants

How to Deer Proof Your Garden and Plants
I have some seedlings growing from seeds that were naturally stratified outside in a plastic bin filled with coconut cour mixed with organic soil. When theyre tall enough for their big leaves to start popping off their seed casings, can they be transferred to a tall pot as is, or is it best to wait for them to lose their leaves during the winter when theyre a little more taller?
Are there any known benefits to seed spreading comfrey?
There are nasty tasting peaches?
Hey. Does it do well in the shade or is it a must to plant it in direct sunlight?
Great video. Thanks for sharing
@eternally, excuse him if he don’t wanna be tacky.
So I guess (James) you eat tasteless plain bland food, uh?
I break the out and skip stratification. Works way faster
Chickens kill Comfrey in short order.
Excellent work
Not true. You can pollinate another flower with a flower from the same tree.
Thanks
Do you know if you can propagate the leaf cutting?
What temperatures do you have summer and winter, without air conditioning and heating ?
Nice ❤
Works great if you're walking with it. If you use your tractor to pull it, there can be problems. Unrolling a full spool of barbed wire is very jerky, as the barbs tend to catch on the wire and each other. If you're unrolling with a tractor, the tractor is a lot stronger than this tool, and a heavy spool can bend or break the prongs on the end of the tool when it catches. There is a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sticker on the package, but the company does NOT respond to inquiries concerning this "guarantee". If it breaks, that's on you. Great tool if you're walking or using a partial spool of wire. Unrolling a full spool with a tractor, you're out of luck.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video 👍🏼👍🏼
Since you asked nicely in a Star Warseque scrolling text...subscribed!
Greeting I have one question. I have the same machine (OHV). My pulling rope broke - start. Do you have such a video on how to change the rope? Thank you in advance.
Just put together but it was missing a long pole. I read all your comments. Gotta feel good knowing your video helped lots of people on their task...
What soil do you plant this in and what do you add to the soil to help this grow
Cant find it online in my country. Thank you for the video
I've been doing research on trees that are true to seeds and peach trees were one of the trees mentioned to be!
The most serious stinging nettle video on youtube
محمد 👍🏻😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video thank you for sharing Sir!
How do you get it to grow like a tree? most of the ones I’ve seen are shrubs or bushes
You can buy them as a tree. I bought mine from Menards in the early spring. It was $70.
Hey hey from Iowaaaay! Curious if you get freezing winters, what do you do for water?
We do freeze here in the winter. Here is a video on how we handle freezing weather. ua-cam.com/video/drYyXPsNf2I/v-deo.htmlsi=OdGMQ6Tfz5ZZlBz5
What is the purpose of that small rectangle hole on front right side of mower body? Mine used to have a black cover, but it fell off.
So..hows it look if in one's yard?
The set-up looks great, along with terrific veggies 🐞
Where did you put them during winter?
These aren't paw paw trees
Oh, but they are - in the United States and Canada at least. The term paw paw is used differently thorough out the world. In the US and Canada, our largest native fruit has a scientific name of Asimina triloba with a common name of paw paw. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimina_triloba In other parts of the world they papaya is referred to as the pawpaw. Here is one article using the term that way. www.abetterchoice.com.au/seasonal-produce/paw-paw-papaya/
yes after seeing raised beds and the affects of air and sun on them, I was just thinking this would happen plus I would have to place the beds on ground for winter to keep them from freezing up higher where I am at. I might still do it but know the risk reward now. Thanks
I'm so glad I don't have to deal with all those pricks. Thanks for sharing.
I have the XT2 LX46 Enduro Series and it’s so easy with electronic PTO. Just 3 bow tie pins to release the deck. No messing with PTO cables anymore. The only thing I hate is the mix of metric and SAE nuts and screws.
I have tried putting 2 of these together. Ripped BOTH the plastic because they wouldn't zip after putting on. Sad it took watching your video to get it to go on and not rip it 😂
Good to know your setup and how you get your plant harden off , you gave me an idea " rolling carts " where my starters are in a section of my work room and i have a sliding glass door leading outside, thanks for the helpful tip. Larry
You are most welcome Larry! Glad the video helped!
The man says I don’t have any 2x4s. Then turns the camera and wow! Holly shit what’s that? A 2x4 you say! Lmao!
What type of soil should they go in?
Thanks
Do you sell any of these seeds or cuttings?
Thank you so much for this, just got some serviceberry seeds and I had no idea what was cold stratification. Now I put them in the fridge and I wait.
Do deer eat the leaves?
My apple tree had a bunch of suckers coming up from the ground but they have leaves on them. How can i root them to produce more trees? Or is it bad that they are larger and have leaves?
What do I do about 6 inch bare root paw paw with zero leaves on them when they arrived? Do I need to prune them?
difference between russian bocking 4 and 14 comfrey?
The visual isn't. Can't see what he is doing.
thats pretty cool
Great video. My understanding is that pawpaw is largely deer resistant due to the toxic foliage. Bucks will rub the trunks of small trees, however, so deer protection is still a good move. Deer do heavily browse many other native (mid-Atlantic) shrubs, trees, and herbaceous plants unfortunately. Deer over-browsing is currently a huge problem for our eastern US deciduous forests. Pawpaw have the luxury of being largely pest and disease free, the pawpaw peduncle borer being perhaps the worst. Caterpillars of the zebra swallowtail butterfly will eat the foliage (they co-evolved to tolerate the toxins in the leaves) but shouldn’t defoliate a mature plant.
